The Wild Adventure Camp Youth Mentor is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of daily and weekly activities in a trips-based summer camp program for children ages 10-17. The WACC will organize and lead activities including hiking, rock-climbing/bouldering, whitewater canoeing/kayaking, backpacking, camping, and more. This position will supervise a group of youth both on on-site at YMCA facilities and off-site in backcountry settings, including state and national forests, swimming holes, and camp sites while ensuring a safe environment for participants at all times. The WACC will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading three separate, week-long sessions of “Wilderness Camp”, which includes adventure course work on Monday, and then a 4-day, 3-night overnight trip Tuesday through Friday at Camp Watia in Swain County. This excursion will include a variety of wilderness activities: hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, swimming, rafting, outdoor cooking, and/or service learning.

This includes, but is not limited to: playing with children (toys, games, activities, arts/crafts, playing outside), reading to children, holding children, supervising play (watching play, yet still interacting, moving, and talking to children), and following the curriculum.
