Programs and Ages:
School-age child care at the YMCA builds self-esteem, values, and leadership skills. You’ll know your children are growing and exploring their potential—they’ll think they’re just having fun. The YMCA offers North Carolina 4 & 5 star-rated, licensed programs designed for ages 5-12 that are based on the YMCA's four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
We also offer a convenient and cost-saving year-round child care option that includes afterschool care AND summer camp. Please click here to learn more about the benefits of our year-round program.
Financial assistance is available based on need and available funds. The financial assistance application can be downloaded here. For details about afterschool, you can also download our Parent Handbook in English here. La Manual del Programa en español está aquí.
The best part of our programs are the children we serve each day. Click HERE to visit our photo gallery.
Please note that our prices for bankdraft/early payment are $80 for the 5-day option, or $70 for the 3-day option. If you choose either of these options, when your payment is processed, it will be discounted down to the correct amount. Please contact the YMCA Business Center at 828 251 5910 with any questions or concerns.
Thanks to the generous support of the Corpening Memorial Center and community donors, the Y has scholarships available for any child registering for the Corpening Memorial YMCA afterschool program. Once you complete the registration process, a representative from the Y Business Center will contact you to discuss the scholarship you qualify for and design a price that fits your family's needs. You may be required to provide proof of income for certain levels of scholarship. If you have any questions, please contact the Y Business Center at 828 251 5910.
All YMCA School-Age Child Care staff members are certified in CPR, standard first aid, and emergency procedures. Counselors also receive 40 hours of additional training in topics such as conflict resolution, child-abuse prevention, Stewards of Children national certification training, diversity, program development, group management, anti-bullying, team building, and developmental assets. No matter our age, we are students, too. Continuing education is required of all child care staff to maintain certifications.
