Outreach Programs

Bagging Apples at Manna with The YMCA's 21st Century Program

The Y partners closely with Buncombe County Schools to serve over 200 middle school students through free programs facilitated Monday-Thursday, end of September-May, with special activities and field trips on specific Fridays or early release days. Each center serves all afterschool clubs and activities so students who participate can also be supported academically by certified teachers and experienced tutors and coached/mentored by Y program staff to reach their educational and personal goals. Community partners include Asheville Museum of Science (formerly Colburn Earth Science Museum), LEAF in Schools and Streets, InnerWorks Productions film class, FEAST nutrition and cooking classes, Asheville Y Wellness staff, and more! Students have opportunities to participate in school clubs and enrichment classes, which change each semester and empower youth to develop assets and leadership skills. If you’re interested, fill out the form below and turn it in to your school's main office. For questions, please contact the Horizon Youth Development Community Director, Heather Deifell, at or 828 210 2263. To inquire about volunteering, contact the Horizon Program Manager, Steven Nickollof, at [email protected] or 828 775 4489.
