
YMCA of Western North Carolina Piranhas Swim Team Coaches Bios
Kiki Farmer
Beginning her third year as Director with YWNC, Coach Kiki has over 30 years of coaching experience at the summer league, high school, college, masters and club levels. Following her collegiate swimming career and BS work from Florida State University, Cch Farmer began full time professional coaching in Greensboro, NC with subsequent stints in Raleigh, High Point, Winston-Salem, NC and Melbourne Australia. She currently serves the National YMCA as a Group Representative for Competitive Swimming, overseeing YMCA competitive swimming in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
Jeremiah Marske
Coach Jeremiah is originally from Tenneessee and moved to the Asheville area to begin 9 grade at T.C. Roberson. It was that year that he joined the team, as he notes, ..“being the slowest on the team…male or female”. By his Senior year he was Conference Swimmer of the Year. He swam at N.C.State until a shoulder injury brought that to an end. After college he coached at the HCats and Hendersonville Y. He is currently a Realtor full time. This is Coach Jeremiah’s second year with YWNC.
Ryane Moss
Coach Ryane begins her first season with the Piranhas however she has been working for the YWNC for numerous years in the aquatics department. Coach Ryane began competitive swimming in Indianapolis Indiana. Her favorite stroke is Butterfly. She then switched to synchronized swimming and competed internationally. Cch Ryane is finishing her degree in Biology at UNCA.
Jim Scherbarth
Coach Jim began swimming in 1937 in his native Minnesota. He is still an active swimmer in the Senior Games and Masters circuits. Coach Jim brings a wealth of experience, history and love of swimming to our staff.
Chris Snyder
Coach Chris joined the team in May 2004 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. For 14 years he was the Head Coach of the Montgomery YMCA Barracudas Swim Team in Alabama. He grew the team from the bottom up to a nationally recognized YMCA. He has coached YMCA national champions and record holders, a World University Games participant and has served as a USA Swimming Select Camp coach and a Zone Team coach. He swam for Tulane University and is a graduate of Auburn University.
Kale Stevens
Coach Kale rejoined the piranha staff in 2006 after completing his BA at East Carolina University. He coached with the team in 2003 as well. Kale brings experience to the team from his background as a competitive swimmer growing up in Florida, and also as a swim instructor of all levels. He primarily works with the 13/older Piranha swimmers, and often assists with the Orange swimmers.
