Social Responsibility

The YMCA of WNC was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the NC Department of Instruction to implement academically focused afterschool programs at Enka, Owen, Erwin Middle Schools. These schools are characterized with high poverty and a large population. The Y partners closely with Buncombe County Schools to serve over 75-80 students at each school running programs Monday -Thursday, October-May. Each day incorporates an hour of tutoring and an hour of enrichment programs in arts, wellness, and service. If you interested in learning more or volunteering, please contact the Youth Development Director of 21st Century Programs, Heather Deifell. [email protected] or 828-775-5888.
