coach speaks to benched adolescent basketball players in red jersey

Kids have been having fun learning how to play basketball at the Y since 1891. Our youth basketball leagues are a great way for kids to fine-tune their skills, practice good sportsmanship, and build teamwork. Kids in YMCA youth sports leagues learn about dribbling, shooting, and guarding.

Youth sports teams spend time on skill development during practice. Games are played once a week. Each player receives a jersey, and children must have sneakers with non-marking soles to play inside all YMCA gyms.

Volunteer

The YMCA of Western North Carolina Family encourages parents to be involved and become part of the Y community through supporting their children at practices and games. Parents and friends can also be helpful as volunteer coaches, officials and timekeepers. Please contact your sports director or coordinator if you would like more information on how to get involved and support the league.

Weather Policy

If practice or games are canceled in case of inclement weather, we will notify participants via email and/or Facebook and Twitter. We also have a Sports League Weather Hotline for each center.
