Youth & Government (Y&G)

North Carolina YMCA Youth & Government’s goal is to promote leadership skills, character values and civic engagement in North Carolina’s teens. We are led by our motto, "Democracy must be learned by every generation.” Since 1993, students have experienced government first-hand and learned how to solve community problems through the democratic process. They debate and discuss issues with their peers ideas they themselves have written into legislation. Youth Legislature teaches the values of democracy by bringing together North Carolina high school students for a four-day, three-night conference in downtown Raleigh.

Middle School United Nations (MSUN)

Participants in MSUN assume the roles of diplomatic representatives to the United Nations as they consider contemporary international concerns. Our Diplomats research, debate, and establish policies, treaties and resolutions focusing on a wide range of international issues. These diplomats will solve hunger, disease, and poverty; our Security Council delegates will keep the peace between nations on the brink of war, and all will rise above the fray to establish long-lasting relationships with their fellow diplomats from across North Carolina.
