YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Fall back into sports
Youth sports programs are a fun way for kids to stay active, build confidence, and learn teamwork. Registration is now open for these leagues and clinics:
- Basketball: NEW! Prepare for school tryouts with clinics for ages 8-13 at the Asheville Y and Reuter Family Y. Learn more here.
- Flag football: NFL FLAG leagues for ages 5-13 are coming to the Asheville Y, Hendersonville Family Y, and Reuter Family Y. Learn more here.
- Punt, Pass, Kick: Football clinics at the Hendersonville Family Y will teach the basics to kids ages 5-9. Learn more here.
- Soccer:
- League play for ages 3-12 will be at the Corpening Memorial Y in Marion. Learn more here.
- Kiddie Kickers clinics for ages 3-4 will be at the Asheville Y, Hendersonville Family Y, and Reuter Family Y. Learn more here.

Want to be a game changer? Volunteer coaches are needed for all sports. Coaching is a rewarding way to connect with the community and have a positive impact on youth. Plus, you don’t need to be an expert in the sport to be a coach. Volunteer for a single event or the whole season. Explore openings here.
Excel after the bell
Reserve your child’s spot in the Y’s enriching afterschool programs and rest easy knowing they have a safe, nurturing place to study and have fun. Financial assistance is available. Learn more and register for programs in Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and McDowell County Schools.

The Y has you covered when you've got things to do. Parents Night Out is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some time off while your child has fun with us. We offer programs at multiple locations on a variety of dates. You don't have to be a member to register, although members get the best rate. Available for ages 1-12. Members can use Kids Club when they need time to run errands or get some work done. This benefit gives you the opportunity to leave the facility while your child enjoys fun activities and makes new friends. Dance with us for free
Calling all tiny dancers ages 5-7! Join us at the Hendersonville Family Y on Aug. 16 from 12-1 p.m. for a one-hour dance demo. We'll twirl through 30 minutes of ballet and groove with 30 minutes of jazz. It’s the perfect way to sample both styles before our full-year dance programs start this fall. Empower tomorrow’s leaders
Looking for a place where your teen can build confidence, make a difference, and connect with peers? Leaders Club offers a positive environment to help teens reach their full potential and ensure they are equipped for success in life after high school. Run, jump, and play the ninja way
Unleash your child's inner ninja! Packed with a variety of obstacle courses and fun, this six-week program is the perfect way for kids ages 4-10 to enhance their balance and agility. Classes take place at the Asheville Y. Sign up here.

Live life to the fullest
Join us for fitness demonstrations, a wellness fair, giveaways, and more at Healthy Aging Day on Friday, Sept. 5. This free event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Reuter Family YMCA is presented by Hopscotch Primary Care. Bring a friend and come see how aging well can be active, social, and inspiring! Learn more here.
Dance around the world
Travel the globe through dance while getting fit! World Dance at the Asheville Y is a high-energy class that blends salsa, merengue, and belly dance for a full-body workout that's as fun as it is effective. Join us for an upbeat and empowering class, no dance experience or passport required. Learn more and sign up here.
Fresh pools, happy swimmers
Summer is the busiest season for our pools. To keep them in peak condition, we’re deep cleaning several facilities over the next few weeks. Check social media, our website, and our mobile app for updates. Here’s the schedule:
- Asheville Y South Pool: Closed Aug. 25-31
- Corpening Memorial Y: Closed Aug. 17-31
- Hendersonville Family Y: Sauna closed Aug. 18-22 (pool open)
The Reuter Family YMCA pool area and locker rooms are getting a major facelift. The hot tub, lap pool, and therapy pool will be closed during construction from Aug. 9-Sept. 21. Projects include:
- Removing old plaster and applying a new layer for a clean, smooth finish
- Installing new tile racing lines
- Deep cleaning
- Thoroughly checking integrity to ensure longevity
From Aug. 10-20, we're installing brand-new lockers and renovating the shower areas in the men's and women's locker rooms. Please plan to change before your visit or use one of our all-gender restrooms.
Strength starts here
Looking to improve your stability and get stronger? Strong Start is a six-week, low-impact, small group training class that builds foundational strength and stability through personalized coaching, light resistance, and functional movement. Join us at the Ferguson Family Y starting Aug. 11 from 10:15-11:05 a.m. Learn more and sign up here.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Holiday hours
All YMCA centers will close at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours resume on Sept. 2.
Feeding our community
Each week, the Y is in the community distributing healthy produce, simple recipes, and valuable nutrition information that's easy to understand. This service is free and open to the public, no questions asked. Find our mobile food market schedules here.
